The Songs We Sing

How Do We Choose Songs For Church?

When singing worship songs together in church meetings, we must properly assess the focus, content and theology of what is being said about God and what is being said about us. But should we even sing songs that come from churches or groups that we have doctrinal differences with, and at what point do we avoid them altogether? Adam Hellyer and Shaun Brauteseth explore these questions and more in the latest session of #BeEquipped.

This clip forms part of the #BeEquipped series – conversations around contemporary issues facing the church. You can watch other thought-provoking videos from the series.

Adam serves as an elder in Joshua Generation Church, South Africa. He is married to Vanessa, and they have two sons. Adam’s particular passions are worship and apologetics. Follow him on Facebook or Instagram for more.

Shaun played punk rock for a living, worked for a chicken company, and then wrote copy for adverts. Now he’s a full-time pastor leading a congregation in Oxygen Life Church in Gqeberha. He is married to Sammy Jane and they have three children. Follow him on Facebook for more.
