Why Do We Worship?

‘Jesus replied, ‘The Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the Lord your God; serve only Him’”‘ (Luke 4:7)

We Worship Because He is Worthy

‘Worship’ is often used to mean the singing part of a church meeting, but it is more than that. The word ‘worship’ derives from worth-ship: to give worth to. So worship is more than singing: it is a state of mind and condition of the heart.

‘…whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.’ (Colossians 3:17)

The word ‘worship’ derives from worth-ship: to give worth to.

Is God worth it? If we believe in our heart and mind that He is, it will reflect in our lives. We will live lives of worship. And when we come together and sing to Him, our belief will reflect in the passion with which we declare His worth. We don’t sing to amuse ourselves or as a change from listening to sermons. When we sing, we are worshiping the King of kings and Lord of lords; the highest Majesty of the universe.

Today, if you have never given your all in worship, take the plunge! ‘Sing for joy to the LORD; shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.’
